Xbox and Bethesda Showcase

Xbox Bethesda Showcase

Introduction

Microsoft's acquisition of Bethesda has many fans excited about what's to come for the Xbox and PC exclusive games, so it makes sense that they would want to showcase all the new content. On June 13, Microsoft will host their first-ever Xbox Bethesda Showcase where we'll see some of our favorite games from the studio and maybe even get a closer look at Starfield.

Xbox will be showing off their Bethesda games at the Xbox Bethesda Showcase on June 13.

It looks like we'll finally get a closer look at Starfield, the next game in development after Fallout 4 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

In case you’re not familiar with the series, Starfield is a space-based RPG created by Bethesda Softworks. The game will be the next title in development after Fallout 4 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which are both getting remastered editions for release on November 14th, 2020. Starfield will follow up on those titles as well as being available on multiple platforms including Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC (Windows), and Nintendo Switch. You can expect it sometime in 2022 or 2023 but nothing has been confirmed yet.

Microsoft's acquisition of Bethesda means that they now own multiple well-known gaming franchises like The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Dishonored, The Evil Within, Prey, and Doom.

Bethesda is a game developer that has been around since 1986. They are best known for creating popular games like The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, and Dishonored. Bethesda Softworks was a subsidiary of ZeniMax Media from 1999 until February 2019 when it was acquired by Microsoft Studios.

Bethesda has created many different franchises including:

  • The Elder Scrolls - A fantasy RPG series that began with Arena in 1994 and continues today with Skyrim (2011), Morrowind (2002), and Oblivion (2006).
  • Fallout - An apocalyptic role-playing game series that began with Fallout 3 in 2008, followed by New Vegas in 2010, 4 and 5 in 2015 & 2077 respectively.

The relationship between Microsoft and Bethesda has been building for a while, but this seems like their first "official" showcase focusing only on their latest games.

Bethesda and Microsoft have been working together for a while now. In fact, their relationship goes back to the days of the original Xbox. Bethesda's games have appeared on every major console since then, but they've never had their own showcase in the past. This might be because Bethesda is such a big name in gaming that not even Microsoft can hold them down for long—or it could be because of all of that other stuff going on between EA and Microsoft lately. Either way, it looks like this new partnership is off to a good start!

There was a bit of controversy recently when a Bethesda marketing representative tweeted that they "don't know we own it yet" when a Twitter user asked if Starfield would be available on the PlayStation 5.

The tweet has since been deleted, but not before screenshots were taken and shared across social media. The response was swift: fans expressed their disappointment in the company's perceived lack of support for Sony's next-gen console. Many even called for boycotts against Bethesda until they were convinced otherwise.

Though some speculated that this may have been an intentional move by Bethesda to drum up publicity for its upcoming titles, it's clear now that it wasn’t—the offending employee was fired shortly after sending out his ill-advised tweet (and issued an apology).

Microsoft is being very tight-lipped about what we can expect from the showcase, but with all of these new games coming out - including new titles like Starfield - it makes sense to give each of them some time in the spotlight.

The Microsoft Xbox Showcase is an event that happens once per year. Each year, Microsoft announces games that are coming out on their Xbox One console or Windows 10 PC computers. This year was no different as they announced many titles including Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Battletoads Returns, and Deathloop by Remedy Entertainment among others.
